Who knows how long quality commentary will last during the race to the White House?

Having said that, we’re still a little over fourteen months away from electing our new occupants for 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, but in the mean time I think I’ve found a couple of ladies that can help ALL of us narrow down each of our respective moments of indecision, along with clarifying some of the important issues of day.

Over this past month, I’ve selected a short sampling of some of their ‘crack reporting’ for your introspection –

AL ARBOUR, RIP

Al Arbour was special. One of a kind. Entrenched on the top tier of the best coaches ever in the National Hockey League (NHL). A member of hockey’s Hall of Fame.

He is the second winningest coach in the history of the NHL, behind fellow Hall of Famer, Scotty Bowman, who also gave Arbour his first crack at coaching while in St. Louis.

The respect that hockey fans had / felt toward Arbour was almost unparalleled.

Prior to his coaching career, Arbour played in the league as a defenseman for four different teams, winning four Stanley Cups

At 82, he died yesterday. Those who played for him, as well as those who played against his teams, are mourning his passing today.

Over his nineteen year career as head coach, he was with the St. Louis Blues (late ’60’s), briefly, and then on to the New York Islanders (who were an expansion team at the time, in the early ’70s), and who Arbour took to the playoffs fifteen times. He also was in the Stanley Cup Finals five times, winning four consecutive titles from 1980 through 1983. A rare and memorable feat!

GRANDMA H’S DEFINITION OF “TERRORISTS”

While on the stump, Grandma H compared members of the GOP running for 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue to “terrorists” when it comes to women’s rights.

This coming from the same grandmother who found it almost impossible to decry the utter horror from the expose of the Planned Parenthood videos that have surfaced over the summer as regards the workings, employees (including some from the medical profession), and organizational procedures and policies of this federally-funded group.

There needs to be more of this kind of response by the GOP to any / all of the crap spewing from the larynx of this ill-suited / poorly prepared matronly candidate.

Darryl Dawkins, 58, passed away yesterday of a massive heart attack.

Straight out of Maynard Evans High School (Orlando) into the NBA draft in 1975, Dawkins became the fifth overall pick of the Philadelphia 76’ers. Neither Dawkins or the NBA were ready for a leap by such a talented underage talent. It would take another years before the league was prepared for the likes of Kobe Bryant and Kevin Garnett, coming directly from high school.

It was the proverbial ‘too much – way too soon!’ for Dawkins. While the glare of the lights shone bright on the early Chocolate Thunder, as time rolled on he started to put on weight, developed wayward habits, and was traded around the league to three other teams before leaving and forced to play in Europe, for the Harlem Globetrotters, in the both the CBA, and finishing his career in the now defunct IBA.

But, when that light was at its brightest, and his mood was in tact, Darryl Dawkins was a real force in the NBA. Power was the name of his game, as well as his fame. A wonderful giant of a man, with a superb personality to most on-lookers.

He was the show before he knew he was the show! That was the tragedy…
